THANK YOU TO DPW

Mr. Edward Reiskin,

This email is a synopsis of my experience with the incredible transformation since Bruce Storrs and his colleagues have taken over the Bureau of Subdivision and Mapping. In preparing condominium and survey maps over the last 30 years I have seen the gradual deterioration of timely response and service in the review and processing of my client's projects. … When Mr. Storrs took over the department 3 years ago … in a relatively short time he reduced the backlog and response time to the review of projects from six months to its present time of one week. … He has made such a constructive presence in that department that in comparison to my experience with other county agencies within the State of California, there is no peer.

These compliments apply to any individual that I have presently worked with in his department. It is to me reassuring that a legacy is being established there that will keep it a model for years to come.

Hi,

(Supervisor) Ross (Mirkarimi) had me driving around today checking things out in District 5. Haight/Ashbury and Lower Haight looked great.  Inner-Sunset was spotless and Divisadero even with the construction was good. Hayes Valley, clean.

Great job to the DPW crew and the Corridor programs.

Hi Ed (Reiskin),

Thank you soo much!  ...we've noticed a difference!  The West side of 26th Ave (between Geary and Anza) looks soo much better! And last night a young man (mid 20s) was walking on the sidewalk and picked up a piece of trash and put it in a trash bin that was on the curb.  I called out to him and thanked him for doing it.  He said, "this is my neighborhood too".  :)

Kind regards,
Rena Fritts

Merle (Goldstone),

I REALLY enjoyed the (Graffiti Watch training ) class.  You are a thorough instructor.  Two hours for the class is good. … The class made me feel empowered and connected to others in the group and the neighborhood people who stopped and thanked us.  Again, a sincere pleasure to have met you.

Sylvia

Sue (Chen),

I realized today that I have been remiss by not formally thanking you for coming in during your vacation (on New Year's Eve no less) to review the pier rebar shop drawings.  It was pointed out by the contractor today that your extra effort allowed us to shave 5 days off of the negative float, potentially saving the City $6,000 in extended overhead.

Once again, thank you for going the extra mile.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this letter to commend the work of Crew 11 on 01.20.2010. On this day we were experiencing some of the most horrible weather conditions as of recent. It was not only a downpour, cold, but it was also very windy. As I turned off Toland on to McKinnon St. I encountered DPW Crew 11 working on the cleanup of what looked like an entire household's worth of contents dumped into the street. The street was practically flooded and the rain was not going to let up anytime soon. These guys were working so hard + quickly that by the time I finished my errand, in the span of 15 minutes, they had almost finished the job. I know that it was a tough job and being outside was not ideal. These guys were awesome and I just wanted to commend them not only for their hard work, but for their positive attitude.

It is reassuring to know that when situations like this arise, that not only is the DPW available but that their crews are diligent and hardworking. Please pass on my appreciation to Crew 11.

Hi DPW,

I want to compliment Sung Kim, in DPW's 2nd floor offices at 875 Stevenson for his help on the afternoon of Fri., 29 Jan. 2010.  He was patient and helpful in researching and correcting some MIS-information I was provided through 3-1-1. … When I went to the 2nd floor offices on the afternoon of Fri., 29 Jan., no one there had any idea what I was talking about.  Sung Kim took time to go to other parts of the city's website and found the correct information--that DPH's Environmental Health Section handled that issue.

If it weren't for his energy and helpfulness, I might still be calling the wrong # at the wrong agency.  He deserves compliments and recognition for his assistance.

Thanks.

Bob Planthold

Mr. (Matt) Smyth,

I’d like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions Bureau of Building Repair staff has made to our operation in the past year.  Your plumbing shop, supervised by Rich Donovan and Joe Calavaras, has provided invaluable support to our staff in the preparations for the ongoing Water System Improvement Program.  Plumbers Jerry Lehane and Gary Gazzano worked seamlessly with Water Supply and Treatment plumbers repairing leaks, replacing lines and upgrading services in both the field and facilities in a variety of locations near the Town of Sunol. … Your employees maintained a high standard of performance throughout the assignment and were a major factor in the successful completion.
