Overflowing Catchbasins

Catch BasinCatch basins are the storm drains located at most corners of the City's street intersections. They are designed to allow rainwater to drain from the gutters and into the sewer system.

During rainstorms, trash and debris can prevent rainwater from entering a catchbasin. Trash and debris can also collect at the bottom of the catchbasin, allowing water to build up and spill out of the catch basins ultimately causing street flooding.

If you see that litter on top of a catch basin is preventing water from entering the catch basin or water is overflowing from inside the catch basin, call 311, or submit a service request online.

To learn more about storm preparedness, please view the City's storm readiness brochure (pdf). The brochure provides helpful storm preparedness tips and emergency phone numbers.
