WHEN: Friday, November 2, 2012 - 11:45 am – 12 noon

WHO: Invited ping pong players:

WHY: The City’s Better Market Street project will be popping up this Friday from 11am- 2pm at a newsstand kiosk, near the cable car turnaround at Market and Powell Streets. By taking ping pong to the street, the City hopes to demonstrate, in an easy and fun way, the potential of an activated public space to engage people and encourage the public to participate in enlivening the corridor.
The intention of the pop up is to capture the attention of people passing by in the most highly trafficked areas of Market Street that regularly use the corridor but may be unaware of the project’s mission.
The goal of the Better Market Street project is to revitalize Market Street from Octavia Boulevard to the Embarcadero and re-establish the street as a premier cultural, civic, transportation and economic center of San Francisco and the Bay Area.
Better Market Street Project is led by the Department of Public Works in partnership with the Planning Department, SF Municipal Transportation Agency, the SF County Transportation Authority, and the Office of Economic and Workforce Development in coordination with the Mayor’s Office and other city departments.
