PUBLIC WORKS HOSTS HEALTH FAIR FOR EMPLOYEES
Medical screenings and nutrition information a part
of Mayor's Shape Up San Francisco challenge
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Today, the Department of Public Works is hosting its third annual Employee Health Fair, offering medical screenings and health living information to its 1,200-plus employees as a part of the Mayor's Challenge: Shape Up San Francisco initiative.
The health fair is being held at the DPW Operations Yard at 2323 Cesar Chavez Boulevard from 9:00am until noon. The annual event is scheduled to coincide with the release of seasonal flu vaccines.
This year's event offers a three-pronged approach to raising awareness of a healthy lifestyle with medical screenings, nutritional information and exercise information and demonstrations. By far the most popular service at the Health Fair is the medical screening, which is hosted by California Pacific Medical.
What we are seeing as a result of these events is that employees are becoming motivated to change their lifestyle and improve their personal health, said Mohammed Nuru, Deputy Director of Operations at DPW. Employees are eager to take advantage of the medical screenings and the information that can help them make healthy changes to their daily routine.
The nutritional portion of the event focuses on a healthy diet, bringing in organic fruit tastings from the San Francisco Produce Market, and Chef, Caroline Wallace will give healthy cooking demonstrations featuring certified Natural Food. Other partners include World Gym, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, Sports Basement, and Jamba Juice.
