Fuad Sweiss was appointed as the San Francisco City Engineer and Department of Public Works Deputy Director for Infrastructure Design and Construction in January 2009. Mr. Sweiss oversees the engineering arm of the Department of Public Works.
Mr. Sweiss has about 30 years of experience in the management, design, and construction of projects in the public and private sectors, including 18 years of his professional career spent serving Oakland’s Public Works Agency. He has extensive experience in engineering design, construction management, project management, GIS, and LEED design. Prior to his work in Oakland, Mr. Sweiss held various engineering positions for the JV of Black and Veatch International (BVI) & the Consulting Engineering Center (CEC) in Amman, Jordan working on large water and wastewater USAID funded projects. For approximately three years prior to assuming his position with the City & County of San Francisco, Mr. Sweiss founded and managed a private consulting and real estate development firm in the East Bay. One of his accomplishments was the design of a seven-story Class A Office building seeking LEED-Gold Certification.
Mr. Sweiss graduated from the University of Jordan in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He is licensed in the State of California as a Professional Civil Engineer, Professional Land Surveyor, Class “A” General Engineering Contractor, LEED Accredited Professional, and a Real Estate Broker.
